“How much does it cost?” It’s the age-old question that people have when it comes to hiring professional movers, and often times, can be the deciding factor for customers when they make the decision of how to move their belongings.
- In short, the amount of moving will be the deciding factor in how much your move costs. From move mileage to the size of your household or business, the day of the week, the number of items being moved, the amount of stairs involved, the number of men and trucks required, and the amount of packing supplies needed – each little detail factors into your final moving price.Ensure you’re as precise as possible with furniture, rooms, and boxes that need to be moved so we can provide you with the most accurate moving quote. You can even request a team member visit to provide an in-home estimate. Depending on location, sometimes these are standard.
The old adage “you get what you pay for” has never been more true than with home moving services, and with Authorize Movers , you are paying for quality customer service and moving options! “What about pricing? How will I be charged for my move?”
That’s probably the #1 question on most people’s minds!
Price of local moves is determined, based on five elements: labor, trucks, materials, and travel time. Unlike many local movers, we maintain total transparency when it comes to pricing.
Labor – You pay an hourly rate for each member of your moving crew. This billing starts from the time they arrive at the job – and ends when they complete their work at your new address.
Trucks – You pay an hourly rate for each truck used for your move. Keep in mind, you will need a truck that has been specifically designed to move household goods, not to move freight, be it a local or long distance move.
Materials – You pay for the exact cost of boxes and other packing materials provided by the mover during the move. For more details and information on materials, we refer you to our Packing Materials section!
Travel time – You pay a fee for the time it takes the mover to get from his facilities to the origin of the move, and back to his facilities after the move is finished. The charge usually equals one-half hour to one hour of the cost for labor and trucks.
“What about estimates? I’d like to know how much this will cost up-front.”

“Is there just one type of estimate?
In our business, there are two types of estimates: a non-binding estimate which means your final price will be based on the actual amount of hours and materials used on the job; and a binding estimate which gives you a guaranteed price that won’t exceed the amount quoted.
A non-binding estimate is beneficial if:
You are not exactly sure of all the items you are moving ahead of the move date.
Your local move will involve an unusual amount of details whether it’s residential moving or commercial relocation. You would certainly not like to rush if you are moving fine art or antiques.
A binding estimate is preferable if:
You want to guarantee your budget.
You haven’t moved often, and you are not familiar with the process.
“What else should I know about estimates?”
Whichever type of estimate you choose – and whatever local mover you work with, we offer you the following helpful hints to ensure that you get the most accurate estimates.
Get reliable recommendations. You MUST check out potential movers through objective sources like the Better Business Bureau or your state’s Department of Transportation. The top local movers, be it residential movers or otherwise, will be listed with them It is of great importance that a reputable moving company will be listed with both of these agencies.
Get at least three estimates. This will allow you to make a fair, objective comparison among the short-listed local moving companies.
Compare apples to apples. Break down the elements of each mover’s estimate and make a detailed, realistic comparison of the parts, as well as the whole.
Expect estimates to fall with a reasonable range of each other. A good estimate should be no higher – or lower – than 10 percent of the final cost of the move.
Ask a friend. We also suggest that you talk to your friends and co-workers. Get their unbiased opinions of movers they have worked with. Learn from their experiences. No one wants to recommend an incompetent or dishonest mover to a friend – and have the move go badly.
At Authorize Movers, we are proud to say that a very large percentage of our new customers come to us from satisfied, past customers. Having moved many families and individuals to their new apartment or household successfully, we are a widely trusted residential moving or domestic moving company.
“But what if things change?”
As you approach moving day, your plans may change. You may decide to sell or give away some items, and reduce the size of your move. Or you may increase the number of items to be moved, through purchases, gifts or other circumstances.
If your plans change, for any reason, make sure to advise your relocation consultant as far in advance as possible. He or she will come back and revisit the site to reassess any changes. He or she then can make appropriate adjustments, before the move. This will assure you the correct equipment, supplies and manpower – as well as the closest possible estimate.
